Cambridge juvenile curfew passes, takes effect Oct. 1

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A curfew for juveniles will soon take effect once again in the City of Cambridge.

The juvenile curfew was initially passed on January 9th and was in effect from February 1st through June 30th, however, Cambridge Commissioners have announced the continuance of the curfew for an additional year.

Under the curfew, any juvenile under the age of 16 will not be permitted to be in a public place or place open to the public from 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Exceptions include when the juvenile is accompanied by their parent or an adult authorized by the juvenile’s parent to take the parent’s place in accompanying them for a designated period of time and purpose in a specific area. Additional exceptions include when a juvenile is on an errand directed by their parent until 12:30 a.m. or is returning home by a direct route within one hour of the termination of employment, a school activity, a religious or other voluntary association activity, or a place of public entertainment, such as a movie, play, or sporting event.

The curfew is effective October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024.
