Bayside Football Week 1 Recap
SALISBURY, Md. – Every game in the Bayside Conference in the season’s opening week were decided by at least two scores. And one game was decided back in April.
The Decatur Seahawks earned a win over the Queen Anne’s Lions via forfeit Friday night due to violations by QA that were revealed back in March. The violations occurred between March 18 and March 25, and violated the MPSSAA rules regarding out-of-season practices, camp rule, and summer camp guidance. Due to this, the Queen Anne’s team was required to forfeit their first game of the 2023 season. Al Waters is now out as head coach with Queen Anne’s, Brian Mooney has taken over as head coach.
Easton earned a decisive 38-6 victory over North East. The Warriors will need to correct some of the sloppy play, including three first half turnovers, but it didn’t hurt them too much Friday night. Michael O’Connor taking over at quarterback did not take one sack in the game, and head coach Matt Griffith says he did a good job managing the offense. The junior quarterback threw for 2 touchdowns, was intercepted once, and ran for 40 yards.
Colin Mooney will be a player to look out for, as the junior wide receiver caught 5 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Senior return man Sam Noble returned one kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, and Brandon Jenkins rushed for 76 yards and a score.
The Kent Island Bucs ran away from Parkside at Wicomico Stadium, with Tucker Claxton leading the way for the defending 2A state runners-up.
Colonel Richardson and Snow Hill each came away with decisive shutout victories in their first games of the season in the 1A.
