Attempted armed carjacking suspect arrested in Cambridge, faces new charges

John Jorette

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge Police arrested 28-year-old John Jorette Friday. He was at an unrelated District Court hearing when officers recognized Jorette, who had an active arrest warrant out. After the hearing Jorette was told to stay to deal with the warrant, but officials say he fled. He’s accused of assaulting both a woman and a District Court bailiff during his escape. Jorette was able to leave the building, but Cambridge Police officers eventually caught up to him and took him into custody.

Jorette’s original warrant was related to an incident on August 30. Officials say they responded to reports of a road rage incident with a gun displayed at Dorchester Square. They say the alleged victim almost cut Jorette’s vehicle off, and Jorette followed them, yelling and waving a handgun. He reportedly tried to get the victim out of their vehicle, striking the vehicle with their gun. Store employees stepped in and the suspect fled the area.

Jorette was facing multiple charges in the first incident, including attempted armed carjacking and assault. He now faces additional charges from Friday’s incident, including second degree escape and assault. Friday a judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail after being found in contempt of court.
