Annual Folk Festival to be held, despite weather warnings.

SALISBURY, Md. – The Maryland Folk Festival is in Salisbury and officials say the event will go on, rain or shine.

Officials said they’re doing everything they can to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible.

“We’re trying to make it the best we can, and attendance will probably be lower because of the weather, but we’re hoping that everybody that does come out, has a great time,” Vanessa Junkin, with the City of Salisbury, said.

Vendors who trek to the event every year will be making a reappearance.
One restaurant came all the way from Rising Sun, despite the weather warnings.

“We’re hoping no other vendors show up, and we’re the only ones here to buy food from,” said Alan Amos, from Shady Oak Country Cafe.

And Amos is no stranger to the varying weather that Delmarva can offer.

“We were here back in 2018 and there was a hurricane, so we came in on the tail end of hurricane– stood in three feet of water and had to put our deep fryers on some boxes to keep them up out of the water, so they would keep running, so we’re seasoned veterans; we know what we’re doing,” Amos said.

Junkin said throughout the weekend, safety is the event’s top priority, so officials have put some precautions in place.

“We’re going to have mobile command team that will be monitoring the weather and letting us know if there is anything that we need to stop, or if we need people to evacuate,” Junkin said.

“We want to make sure that all festival goers, The festival team, festival volunteers, vendors and artists are safe; our top priority is making sure that everybody stays safe,” Junkin added.
