After The Whistle: UMES Men’s Women’s Golf Team
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – “We have a good program here, a new coach. She’s one year in, and there’s a lot of good things that are happening here. If we keep building upon them, doing the right things, then there’s success in the future. It’s just a matter of time, ” said UMES Golfer E. Alexander Brooks.
The University Maryland Eastern Shore Men’s and Women’s Golf team comes into the fall season with higher expectations.
“We want to play our best. We want to place and win. Most importantly, I mean, everyone loves winning and being a champion, but really grow together as a team and develop, get to know the newbies that are on the team and how their dynamic is going to affect the golf team and be able to grow us into those champions on a regular basis, said Tianna Jones, the teams’ head coach.
Last year the men’s team shot a school record at the SAS Tournament down in North Carolina and finished eighth at the Northeast Conference Championship to end the year. the women’s team finished the spring season with an 11th-place finish at the championship. All under the guise of then first-year coach Tianna Jones and with another year on her belt, she expects more from the Hawks..
“Being prepared and just knowing what to expect now, I would definitely say it’s the biggest learning curve for me. Just growing together with the teams and being able to understand where they come from, their dynamic and their backgrounds and how I can best serve them is one of the things that it takes a lot of time to foster new relationships,” she said.
The season is here for the Hawks so now is the time to show the community what they’re made of.
“I like the guys that we have. I mean, I need to do my part and they do their part. If we do all our parts, then we’ll have a successful year. Simple as that,” Brooks said.
