Weekend lifeguard coverage extended at two Del. beaches through September

New Beach Protection Plan

DELAWARE – DNREC officials say they will extend lifeguard coverage at two of its four Delaware State Parks ocean swimming areas to weekends in September.

Lifeguards will be on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park’s South Inlet beaches on weekends through September 24th.

Delaware State Parks swimming areas are typically unguarded after Labor Day, but this extension is made possible by the significant growth of the Delaware State Parks Beach Patrol under new leadership. We’re told over 70 lifeguards were hired this year.

Additionally, lifeguard tryouts for the 2024 summer season will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 3rd, at the Delaware Seashore State Park South Inlet Day Area, and on Sunday, September 10th, at Cape Henlopen State Park. More info can be found here.
