Skeletal remains uncovered in Accomack County
New Church, Va- According to a release from the Accomack County Sheriff’s office on July 23rd at approximately 9 p.m., as part of a joint investigation with Wicomico County Sheriff’s office, skeletal remains were discovered on Green Hill Road in New Church, Virginia.
Detectives from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s office were initially conducting a missing person investigation where they received information that the person was deceased and that the body had been disposed of in Accomack County.
Accomack County investigators assisted in the search of multiple wooded areas in Accomack County where skeletal remains were eventually discovered.
Those remains were transported to a medical examiner’s office and while a preliminary identification has been made a positive identification is still pending.
An investigation led to warrants being obtained for three Salisbury individuals: Johmon Lawrence Handy, Ronjai Allen Wharton, and Amanda Rooks. All three have been charges with Concealment or destruction of physical evidence in a felony offense and concealment or transportation of a dead body.
All three of these individuals are being held in Maryland detention facilities while they await extradition.
