UPDATE: Serious crash claims life of one in Georgetown
8/29 UPDATE: Delaware State Police have identified the victim in this crash as 18-year-old Gricelda Ramirez-Chilel of Ellendale.
GEORGETOWN, Del. – A serious crash claimed the life of one and injured another Sunday morning in Sussex County.
At around 11:40 a.m., police say a gray 2007 Mazda 3 was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard south of W. Robbins Road, while a silver 2019 Nissan Murano was traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard in the same area. For unknown reasons, the Mazda reportedly swerved sharply to its left and drove through the center grass median and into the northbound lanes, where it crashed into the oncoming Nissan.
The front seat passenger in the Mazda, an 18-year-old Ellendale woman, was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.
The driver of the Mazda, a 39-year-old Ellendale woman, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The left backseat passenger in the Mazda, a 4-year-old boy, was taken to an area hospital for serious injuries. He was later flown to another hospital for continued treatment.
Both the driver of the Nissan, a 58-year-old and front seat passenger, a 60-year-old woman, both from Bangor, Pennsylvania, were taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
