Salisbury teen tried as an adult in November 2022 shooting

SALISBURY, Md. – A 15-year-old has been convicted and sentenced on assault and firearm offenses.

During the early morning hours of November 27, 2022, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Westside Cash Market for a report of shots fired. Multiple spent shell casings were found in the parking lot, and further investigation revealed that 15-year-old De’Meire Cornish, who was 14 years old at the time of the incident, fired multiple shots from a semi-automatic handgun at the victim he left the area in his vehicle. No one was physically injured as a result of the incident.

Due to the nature of the charges, Cornish was charged as an adult, and following a contested reverse waiver hearing, it was determined that he would remain in adult jurisdiction and be tried as an adult.

Cornish pleaded guilty to first degree assault and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years with all but 5 years suspended and will be supervised for 5 years upon release.
