Salisbury man sentenced to 83 years for murder in new trial

SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man convicted of murder and related charges in a new trial has been sentenced to 83 years behind bars.

39-year-old Dionte Dutton was convicted by a Wicomico County jury in late May of second degree murder, first and second degree assault, conspiracy first degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and wear/carry/transport handgun in vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident on June 10, 2017, when Dutton got into a minor confrontation with Jaquanta Walton while inside the VFW on West Main Street in Salisbury. As a result, Dutton called his associate, Lee Braboy, to the VFW with a firearm. When Braboy arrived, Dutton got into Braboy’s vehicle and began stalking Walton, who was on foot outside of the VFW. Dutton eventually started driving Braboy’s vehicle, pulling behind a building opposite the VFW. He then left the area. Less than three minutes later, Braboy come out from behind the building, walked up to Walton, and shot him once in the chest before fleeing on foot.

Dutton was previously convicted of these same charges in 2019, but was granted a new trial on appeal. Braboy was convicted of first degree murder and other related charges in March 2019 and is currently serving multiple life sentences.
