New memorial scholarship looks to support education majors at Salisbury University
SALISBURY, Md.- The new Nancy and Stewart Harrison Scholarship will support education majors at Salisbury University.
The Harrison’s both graduated from the university back in 1950’s and through the years stayed closely connected.
Mr. Harrison died earlier, however the Harrison’s home that was gifted to the university was sold following his wishes. Money from the sale will provide $2,500 scholarships for up to two years for 20 students.
The Salisbury University Foundation tells us the hope is to attract more aspiring educators. “It’s what Salisbury University was founded on. We were a teacher’s college, and I think how this went full circle with Mr. Harrison coming here in the early 1950’s and what he did with his career. Now, this is sort of paying it forward,” SUF Vice President Jason Curtin said.
“The fact that they were able to do this speaks volumes to the type of people that go into education. It’s our job to continue to make sure students have that option and support them as best as we can.”
The Salisbury University Foundation also tells us it’s a great way to keeping the Harrison’s memory alive.
