Mosquito pool in Whaleyville tests positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis

WHALEYVILLE, Md. – The Worcester County Health Department says a mosquito pool in the Whaleyville area recently tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

Officials say the mosquito species that tested positive feeds primarily on birds. This is the first positive test for EEE in Worcester County this year.

Viruses such as EEE are most common during the summer and fall months and are transmitted by infected mosquitos and spread to humans, birds, horses, and other animals.
