“Literally a lake in front of my house” – Cambridge residents react to severe flooding

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Parts of Cambridge were engulfed by water following a flash food emergency that was issued Monday night.
Streets across the City of Cambridge were under water as a result of the severe weather that moved through Dorchester County.
Several residents reached out to 47 ABC providing footage and photos of what appeared to be severe flooding that engulfed the area and impacted motorists.
Shontay Christopher, who lives on Camelia Street, reported heavy flooding with several vehicles getting stuck as they made their way down the road, one of which was severely damaged and lost its bumper.
“It was just a lot of rain,” Shontay explained. “Just rain, like, and we have literally a lake in front of our house now. Cars stuck, and somebody’s bumper outside my house right now. Somebody lost they whole bumper! The cars got moved, but they were doing a lot of smoking like when they would go through the water and stuff.”
Several other residents, including Holly Collins, reached out sharing photos of heavy flooding in the areas of Bayly and Peach Blossom Avenues.
“Very shocked,” Collins said. “Never saw anything like it here. I had to chase my trash can down the street in thigh deep water.”
There were also reports of severe flooding in the areas of Washington, Franklin, and Hayward Streets where residents say they saw disabled vehicles and flooding that impacted homes.
It’s vitally important to remember to never attempt to pass through standing water and instead always turn around and seek another route.
National Weather Service data shows that nearly half of all flash flood fatalities are vehicle-related, according to AAA, and except for heat related fatalities, more deaths occur from flooding than any other weather hazard.
