High School Football Preview: Colonel Richardson
FEDERALSBURG, Md.– Colonel has found incredible success since James Jackson took over. They’ve won back-to-back division titles in 1A — and they are looking to make that a three-peat this fall.
Colonel Richardson is coming off a great season, Last year the Colonels snagged their second straight division title in the past 3 years and now a season is around the corner, and head coach James Jackson is hard at work putting together new pieces for the upcoming year.
“We’re replacing quite a few guys from last year, so just getting the new guys up and running for what we need and what we need out of them- so it’s just been- just trying to be sharp and execute every practice,” said coach Jackson.
One of the key players that helped Colonel get 2 straight division titles was Cam Gondeck and coach Jackson had this to say about replacing one of his former star players.
“We’re going to be faster- so even though we lost some key guys- we lost Cam Gondeck who had 100 tackles last year- replacing him is going to be big so we just need guys to move faster and pick the slack that he had last year.”
And for this upcoming season, the goal remains the same as it’s always been.
“Yeah, same goal every year. Come in and try to get a high seed in the playoffs, win the division title, so that’s our goal again this year.”
And if you’re wondering what Colonel might look like under the Friday night lights this upcoming season, Coach Jackson has you covered.
“More speed, we’re gonna see more speed. We’re also going to see hopefully, we’ll throw the ball more than we did last year. We maybe threw the ball 2 times a game last year so hopefully we’ll air it out a little bit more. I’m looking forward to it, I’ve been working on it so maybe we’ll see it.”
