Food Bank of Delaware launches fundraiser to support new facility project

DELAWARE – In just about 3 months, the Food Bank of Delaware plans to open the doors to its new facility in Milford. They’re now calling on the community to help fundraise to get the project across the finish line.

They recently launched their Buy a Brick and Help Build Hope campaign.

For $500, donors can purchase a brick to personalize that will be place in the courtyard area.

The food bank tells us it’s an opportunity for the community to leave a lasting mark and help change the lives of their neighbors. “It will give an individual or family three lines of text, with 16 spaces on each line, to commemorate themselves, their family, a loved one, or a company that they might want to recognize,” Food Bank of Delaware’s Chad Robinson said.

“It’s a way that folks can help support the facility to leave that permanent mark but also allow us to get the project across the finish line.”

Back in 2013, the food bank expanded its current building and since then identified that additional space was needed. The $34 million project will serve citizens of Kent and Sussex counties while also fulfilling a growing need down state.

In addition to the traditional warehouse, the new space will offer a community garden, more volunteer space, and room for the Logic Training Program that is currently only offered in Newark.

Donations are being accepted now.
