Fallen Fruitland Police Officer Spencer Wiersberg honored
FRUITLAND, Md. – Fallen Fruitland Police Officer Spencer Wiersberg is getting a special honor.
On Friday, two new flag poles were installed at the police station to pay tribute to Officer Wiersberg’s legacy.
He passed away in 2020 after a battle with bone cancer.
Wiersberg’s father, Captain Rich Wiersberg of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, says he’s honored to see the support, adding that local police departments and the city of Fruitland have kept his son’s memory alive.
“We learned that with Spencer’s journey that young adults get some help but they are probably the least looked after, unfortunately,” Wiersberg said. “Besides the fact that he was my son, and he was always the apple of my eye, but I think that everything everybody has done to keep his memory and what he stood for alive is quite grateful.”
