Eastern shore youth invited to help commemorate 60th anniversary of March on Washington
MARYLAND- It’s been 60 years since the historic March on Washington and now The Maryland State Conference Youth and College NAACP is calling on you to help commemorate the milestone.
Youth ages 25 and under are asked to join them for the annual march on Saturday. President Dorien Rogers says they’ll be advocating for education reform, workforce development, the environment, and more.
He adds the shore has played a huge part in Maryland’s historical significance, which makes it even more important that our voices are heard. “Take for example Harriet Tubman who comes from the Dorchester County area. Making sure that we’re utilizing the historical excellence of people like Harriet who were not only resilient but made sure that future generations had the tools to remain empowered,” Rogers said.
“Our message to the shore is not only are you the pillar when we talk about black excellence and black history, but you’re the pillar to advance our democracy regardless of your background. We want you to come on out.”
Youth interested are encouraged to meet the NAACP this Saturday, August 26th at 10:30AM at the Lincoln Memorial.
