Dewey Beach Restaurant Olympics returns, funds raised support local community

DEWEY BEACH, DE.- 16 local restaurants battling it out Tuesday to see who’s the best of the best in a unique set of competitions known as the Dewey Beach Restaurant Olympics. “Lots of grueling, grueling hours of training and mental preparation. I’m kidding, honestly, it’s just a lot of fun,” Pete said.
Starboard Raw were the reigning champs and were determined to bring home a trophy for the second year.
Bartender Pistol Pete tells us outside of a little friendly competition, the event is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the season. “It’s great having all the restaurants here so we can collectively do something because everyone’s schedule is so crazy during the summer,” Pete said.
Mayor Bill Stevens says it’s a wonderful way to highlight the local business community, which considers the heart of the town. “You can easily look at the 16 wonderful restaurants we have in town and there’s multiple reasons why people visit Dewey Beach. That is one of them,” Stevens said.
The Dewey Beach Business Partnership hosts the event. Executive Director Kelly Ranieri says it also stands as a fundraiser. “The money that we collect goes right back into more event building as well as back into the community,” Ranieri said.
Despite there being a trophy up for grabs in the end, we’re told there’s even more at stake. “Always remember that there’s things in life called dreams and memories. Dreams are what you search for, and memories are what you have. This is a memory that’s being created,” Stevens said.
The results are in, and this year’s winner is Paradise Grill! Congrats to the team and all they do for the local community.
