CAMDEN, Del. – Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., police say a white 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on S. State Street, approaching the intersection at Sorghum Mill Road. At the same time, a 3-year-old boy was reportedly running across S. State Street from the west side of the road, near the Valero gas station, to the east towards Allen Frear Elementary School. The front of the truck hit the child in the northbound lane of S. State Street, causing the child to fall to the ground. The Silverado then fled from the scene without stopping.

The 3-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, an 18-year-old Smyrna man, was contacted by law enforcement in the Smyrna area.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. No other vehicles were involved.

Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Master Corporal J. Lane at 302-698-8457 with any information.
