Community members remember fallen officer at Heacook Fest

DELMAR, Md.- Community members in Delmar gathered for one of the biggest festivals on the Eastern Shore, the annual Heacook Fest.

People came from all over Delmarva to celebrate the life of fallen officer Corporal Keith Heacook, who was killed in the line of duty in April 2021.

Before the event took place, Delmar Mayor Benjamin Jordan joined officials to unveil the new street sign dedicated to Heacook.

“This road is going to be named after Keith Heacook,” Mayor Jordan said. “As they’re leaving and coming, they’ll be able to see the sign and remember the sacrifice that was made, and it’s going to have a long, lasting impact, for years to come.”

The festival turned the tragic loss of Keith Heacook into a memorial celebration that included live music, food and family games.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the organizations Operation We Care, Tunnel to Towers and Behind the Line.
