Community continues to search for answers in hit-and-run case
CAMDEN, Delaware.- Earlier this month, 3-year-old Kasai Bull was willed in a hit-and-run accident, in Camden, Delaware.
The family and friends of the victim have been rallying for the person responsible for that deadly drive to be brought to be brought to justice.
But Senior Corporal Leonard DeMalto said Delaware State Police is still working to bring the case to a close
“An arrest hasn’t been made because the investigation is not done,” Senior Corporal DeMalto said. “I know that since this occurred, back on August 8th, investigators have been working tirelessly on this case.”
Senior Corporal DeMalto said investigators have been in contact with the driver, but there are still loose ends to tie up before a formal arrest can be made.
“Our investigators have made a lot of steps forward, but with that being said, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done, and they’re working as hard as they can to get that work done,” Senior Corporal DeMalto said.
“The evidence includes pictures, videos, witness statements, evidence from the car, evidence from the scene itself, so they’re taking all that into effect,” Senior Corporal DeMalto said.
On the other hand, Chelle Paul, the founder of Divided We Fall, and is helping support the family, says an arrest is overdue.
“Why hasn’t an arrest been made?” Paul asked. “Guilt or innocence, that’s not for any of us to go through. We don’t know exactly what’s going to transpire as a result of the arrest. Once this young man is arrested, that’s the first step,” Paul added.
And as the community continues to search for answers, they hope that with time, justice is served for Kasai Bull.
“The 18-year-old assailant that left the scene of the accident, no matter what the excuse for leaving, still needs to be charged,” Paul said. “Let the judicial system take its course in making sure that people understand that this can’t be tolerated.”
