Camden Town Council will decide next mayor
CAMDEN, Del. – The question as to who will fill the role of mayor in the Town of Camden is still unanswered.
The now former Mayor, Justin King stepped down just days ago after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of hindering the prosecution and disorderly conduct.
As part of the plea, King was forced to step down, pay a 500-dollar fine, serve one year of unsupervised probation, and have no contact with the victims.
The charges stem from an incident earlier this year where king reportedly got into a physical altercation with three people at a local car wash he owns.
Camden’s Town Attorney Craig Eliassen tells us it’s now up to the town’s council to fill the role.
“The remaining council members need to select someone from the existing council or from the outside to serve until the end of Mayor King’s term which is February of 2024 – six months from now,” Eliassen stated.
The Central Delaware NAACP previously called on the town to clarify its continuity of government after King stepped down.
Eliassen expects a decision to made at next month’s council meeting.
47ABC News has reached out to Justin King and his attorney Steven Wood who declined to comment.
