Berlin gas station fire under investigation

BERLIN, Md. – An investigation is underway following a fire at a Berlin gas station Tuesday morning.

At around 11:20 a.m., Berlin Volunteer Fire Company firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Friendship Exxon, located at 10709 Grays Corner Road. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional equipment and personnel to the scene.

More than 50 firefighters and 31 pieces of apparatus responded, working for nearly four hours to control the blaze. Crews from Ocean City, Showell, Bishopville, Newark, Snow Hill, Ocean Pines, Selbyville, Frankford, Roxana, Dagsboro, Powellville, Willards, and Pittsville volunteer fire companies responded to assist.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Total damage has been estimated at over $350,000. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
