Back-to-school cyber safety

FRUITLAND, Md.- With back-to-school season in full effect, parents may want to post pictures of their children on their first day of school.

But Sargeant Benjamin Mills with the Fruitland Police Department warns that the more information you put online about you child, the more you run the risk of exposing them to predators.

“If any parent is posting different things about their child, there’s always going to be different indicators in that photograph that a predator with bad intentions can find,” Sargeant Mills said. “Google Search and Google Earth sometimes it’s good, but a lot of times it’s bad, especially in the wrong hands.

Sargeant Mills adds that doing a basic Google search of yourself can help parents understand the amount of information that predators can access online.
