87th annual Wicomico County Fair makes big return, showcases many new attractions
SALISBURY, Md.- “We’ve got 12 food vendors who we source locally from the lower shore. We’ve got over 50 vendors in our marketplace, arts and crafts, small businesses, and commercial vendors,” Evans said.
You could find just about any and everything for the whole family to enjoy at this year’s Wicomico County Fair at Winter Place Park in Salisbury. “The unique thing about this fair is that we’ve made it inclusive. While it emphasizes agriculture and our rural community, everybody has a seat at the table, and we want to celebrate everyone’s passion here,” Evans said.
Many fan favorites made their return like the livestock exhibits and even the petting zoo. Yet for the first time ever, the duck races made its debut and drew in quite the crowd. “The quacks are just like music to my ears,” Game Runner Chloe Hill said.
Funds from the races will go to purchase new livestock pins for fair animals. Chloe and her sister helped run the races and she tells us keeping animals safe is something near and dear to her heart. “I just love animals so much and I just don’t want to witness an animal getting hurt. This existing is just phenomenal,” Hill said.
Although admission into the fair is free, Chairman Zach Evans says the extra foot traffic the event brings is great for the local economy, especially small businesses. “It’s giving people an opportunity to access this audience. We’ve got venue and can build a program, but we want to make sure small businesses have a seat at the table so they can come and either sell their services or goods,” Evans said.
Evans says that over the course of the weekend more than 12,000 visitors made their way to the fairgrounds.
He also tells us the event couldn’t be possible without their amazing group of volunteers. To find out how you can join in click here
