USSSA Eastern National Championships poised to boost Delmarva businesses
WICOMICO CO., Md. – Wicomico County is gearing up for the 2023 USSSA Eastern National Championships. The three week tournament is expected to have an economic impact of almost $17 Million on the Shore.
“Collectively over the three weeks we’re estimating that this event will see an economic impact of $16.7 Million in total,” says Wicomico County Tourism Manager Kristen Goller. “When folks come into town for these tournaments they spend the night in our hotels and then they eat in our restaurants, they fill up gas, they go to our grocery stores. So they are really introducing new money into our market, which is the goal of us here in tourism.”
Goller says it’s one of the largest and most impactful events throughout the year and says she’s grateful that the community welcomes both athletes and their families back year after year.
“These organizers, they’re being recruited for markets bigger than ours with more money to spend; and so that local embrace of the tournament and the players, those welcome messages on the marquee, the sponsorships for the tournament and just their overall friendly attitude that we show these players and their families here on the Shore, that is paramount to them coming back,” explains Goller. “Organizers tell us that they know we’re a small market but they come back year after year because of our customer service. So thank you to the businesses that have helped support this tournament for over 15 years,we rely on it and we are really appreciative of it.”
Games will span from Salisbury to Ocean City, with the hub at the Harry S. Parker Athletic complex. The event kicks off July 11 and runs through July 30. For more tournament information click here.
