Spent fireworks causes house fire in Camden

CAMDEN, Del. – A house fire in Camden has been ruled accidental.

According to Delaware Fire Marshals, the fire was reported at around 10:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Apple Blossom Drive near Walnut Shade Road. Firefighters responded and found flames engulfing the two-story house.

Deputy fire marshals determined that the fire began outside of the home when spent fireworks were placed inside a trash container after being discharged. The items inside the trash container then ignited and burned up the exterior of the home and into the interior.

Heavy damage was estimated at $250,000. The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance for one adult and one child. Additionally, one firefighter was taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus for medical evaluation.
