Small Business Market event helps local shop owners network, expand customer base
SEAFORD, Del. – “Taking a house stable concept and turning into a local shop is probably the most magical thing about it,” Co-Owner Thomas Dayball said.
Thomas and Charlene Dayball had an idea to open a shop where anyone can stop in and find something they’re not looking for. That became The Stables at Bucks Branch in Seaford. “We go all over to find these different items. Auctions, flea markets, and even estate sales. We go everywhere locally in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland,” Co-Owner Charlene Dayball said.
The duo has now been in business for seven months. The shop offers a variety of antique furniture and decor items. We’re also told you may even stumble across some things that are brand new.
Knowing how hard it is for new businesses to find exposure, they took upon themselves to team up with The Wild Fern to host Small Business Market Sundays. “People are always posting on Instagram or Facebook to try and get their name out there, but so many people just scroll on past. We wanted to bring a place where people could come out, see the product, sample it if they’re a food business or even touch a product to figure it out,” The Wild Fern Co-Owner Kathryn Gosciejew said.
One of those vendors was Ox Naturals, who offers a variety of self-care products made with all-natural ingredients. Owner Marian Banks says the event was not only great for brand exposure but also the perfect networking opportunity. “I take some of my cards and I walk around to every table. I buy from tables that have something I like or could use at home for my children. I also get their cards as well,” Banks said.
Dayball says the shop was always a dream for his wife that he helped make reality. He has a few words for those with that same entrepreneurial spirit. “Anything is possible if you put your mind to it, give it the effort, and work hard. It’s definitely something rewarding in the end,” Dayball said.
The Stables at Bucks Branch is open the second weekend of every month. The next Small Business Mart at The Stables at Bucks Branch is scheduled for August 27th.
The Wild Fern’s next event will be a Back to School Bash in partnership with Tony’s Pizza.
