DELAWARE – The Cornerstone Community Center is looking to increase awareness on tobacco prevention for youth.

Their new program is called KAT or Kids Against Tobacco. It targets youth grades 3-8, educating them on the dangers of nicotine and tobacco products.

Executive Director Latoya Harris says vaping amongst youth is a growing concern. She says many kids are hiding vapes in things like bottles and hairbrushes and sneaking them into school.  “We know just from KBG (Kick Butts Generation) that 800 Delaware youth are becoming smokers daily. We just want to help prevent that and educate kids on the dangers of nicotine and tobacco use,” Harris said.

The program will meet once a month starting in September. We’re told meets will include discussions, education materials, food, and more. Services will be provided free of charge.
