Maryland artists wanted for upcoming mural project at Ocean City skate park

 

OCEAN CITY, Md.- The Ocean City Development Corporation is looking for experienced Maryland artists to help with an upcoming mural project. The mural will be located at Ocean Bowl Skate Park.

OCDC secured a $10,000 grant from Maryland State Arts Council to support the project. Three artists will be selected and will earn $2,500 each.

Executive Director Zach Bankert says plans started with the renovations being made at the Downtown Recreational Complex.

He also tells 47ABC the goal is to celebrate the history of the park and skate culture. “It has a lot of history there. It’s been skated by local legends and professional skateboarders alike. We’re hoping at the end of the day to have a mural done here, that both in content and style, that not only represents skate culture but skate culture in Ocean City,” Bankert said.

In this stage of the process, OCDC is requesting an artist’s portfolio, experience, resume, and references. 

Banket says the three designs from those selected artists will be presented to the public, with one of them being chosen for the mural. He adds that will be contingent upon additional grant funding they will be apply for later this year.

OCDC is working with a variety of partners for the project including the Town of Ocean City, The Art League of Ocean City, and more.
