Local nonprofit providing scholarship opportunity for kids attending summer camp

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Worcester County GOLD has $10,000 available to support kids headed to summer camp.

It’s their Summer Activities for At-Risk Youth program.  Families can receive assistance of up to $500 per child for any camp of their interest including sports, the arts, and more.

Executive Director Nicholas Cranford tells 47ABC they believe it’s important all kids have an equal opportunity to get out and make memories during summer break.

He also says the program is not only removing barriers for families, but it’s a developmental opportunity for kids. “It’s amazing to see certain kids when they’re in school be a little shy, but then during summer camp they get to meet new kids, try new things, and gain confidence. We know it can be really beneficial for them and those families. We are just really proud of this program,” Cranford said.

This summer, the nonprofit has provided $24,000 in scholarships for nearly 100 kids to get to camp.

To qualify for any of the nonprofit’s services, you must be a resident of the county living in low-income circumstances.
