Ford Motors kicks off new program tackling food insecurity with local nonprofit

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- “People love kids, people love animals, and people love environmental causes. The one thing everybody could rally around is food insecurity,” Ford Motor Company’s Customer Experience Associate Chaun Avery Brown said.

Tuesday, Ford Motor Company kicked off their new ‘Ford Force’ pilot program in Cambridge with a volunteer service day supporting the nonprofit Midshore Meals Til Monday. “Right now, we’re working with 12 dealers and 12 Feeding America partners to put on these volunteer events, invite customers out, and really try to make a difference in the communities that we serve. We want to be visible,” Brown said.

One of those dealers is Preston Automotive Group. They officially became a sponsor for the nonprofit, presenting them with a check for over $4,200.  President David Wilson says it was also important for them show up. “Programs like Meals Til Monday is just an amazing program that everyone needs to know about so that they can help participate and give back the littlest things. The thing that’s free for all of us to give back is our time,” Wilson said.

Meals Till Monday is actually Ford’s first stop an effort to connect with food banks across the country.

Executive Director Pamela Allen says the additional funds will allow them to do more. “We stick with our primary mission of providing food to the kids, but we know kids are a part of a family. Anything we can do to help the families, we do,” Allen said.

With more hands-on deck, Allen hopes they can get one step closer to not only providing food for those that are hungry but solve the problem of hunger. “Hopefully it will open up some opportunities and larger corporations will want to help Meals Til Monday and make donations,” Allen said.

Meals Til Monday tells 47ABC with the additional funding they hope to do more food distributions in the near future.

The nonprofit has a food pantry in Vienna which is open every Friday from 3:00PM-5:30PM.
