Enterprise zone to boost business in Snow Hill

SNOW HILL, Md. – The town of Snow Hill is hoping to attract more business by restarting its enterprise zone membership.

Enterprise zoning is not a new concept in the town of Snow Hill. This time around, Snow Hill Town Manager Rick Pollitt is hoping more businesses take advantage of the program, to strengthen existing and future businesses in the community.

“What it does is provide property tax incentives and employment tax incentives to new businesses that might be coming in, or existing businesses that want to expand,” Pollitt said.

Officials hope the initiative makes Snow Hill more attractive to potential business owners. Pollitt adds that it’s a vital asset to the township.

“Not having it would be to our detriment,” said Pollitt. “It’s one of the standard tools in what we call our economic development tool kit. If anyone wants to locate their particular community, there are things that we look at in the way of incentives that are worth while to invest in.”

While the enterprise zone is set to revitalize the town, Kieth Donoway from the Pocomoke Rive Canoe Company said he’s looking forward to the new businesses as well.

“I think any initiative that’s going to fill in the vacant commercial areas with new businesses is going to bring in lots of reasons for people to visit,” Donoway said. “Having more foot traffic, and the more people that are brought in, is going to be great for the town.

If you’re considering establishing a business in Snow Hill, Pollitt says  you can expect to receive a warm welcome from the community.

“We’re here with open arms. We’ve got a beautiful town on a beautiful river and I’ve been around now for a while and I don’t think I’ve ever been in a community where there’s so much mutual support for all of us,” said Pollitt.
