‘Dignity Boxes’ provide girls/women with essential items, builds up self-esteem
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Worcester County GOLD has started up a unique initiative to make sure young girls and women have all the essentials they need.
Their ‘Dignity Boxes’ were made possible by The Community Foundation of The Eastern Shore’s Women’s Fund Awards. The $4,900 will assist the nonprofit in purchasing items like socks, toothpaste, body wash, and more to fill those boxes.
The nonprofit tells us they wanted it to feel like a gift box, which is why you’ll also find stickers on them with words of encouragement. “We really want that person to feel like their community cares about them because we really do live in a caring community of people who look out for each other. It’s just been so nice to see the relief in some people’s eyes when we’re handing out the boxes,” Executive Director Nick Cranford said.
The nonprofit has already started distributing those boxes out to clients.
Worcester County GOLD (Giving Others Lives Dignity) also provides emergency assistance for things like housing, utilities, and even clothing for low-income families.
To qualify for any of Worcester County GOLD’s services you must be a resident of the county and meet certain financial guidelines.
