Denton apartment fire under investigation
DENTON, Md. – Numerous residents have been displaced as a result of an apartment fire in Caroline County Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to 509 Market Street at around 2:45 p.m. for a reported fire in a multi-unit apartment building. Nearly 60 firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 40 minutes before it was able to be controlled.
State fire marshals determined the blaze began in an interior second floor stairwell, but the cause remains unknown at this time. Total damage has been estimated at $175,000.
The fire displaced multiple residents occupying 11 separate units. We’re told those residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
