Delmar to host Blue Light Night event in August
DELMAR, Md. – Delmar is getting ready to celebrate the community and its police department at its fun filled Blue Light Night event this August.
The event is put on by the city to connect citizens to local law enforcement and strengthen the relationship between officers and the people they serve. The gathering will feature live music, food, games, rides and a free back to school supply kit for kids.
Delmar Mayor Ben Jorden says the Blue Light Night event is important to the city because it helps connect the citizens to officers in the area.
“It’s to our community because a lot of people I don’t know if [they] really realize how important our police department is to us,” Jorden said. “We’re here for the community. That’s what makes all of us get up every morning to do what we do.”
Corporal Kevin McCill said the recent addition of new officers at Delmar police depart is reason to celebrate at this year’s Blue Light Night.
“We’ve never had these many officers,” McCill said. “This is a chance for them to meet them, see them. Not on a traffic stop, not on a call, but actually come out and talk to them and see what our community is all about.”
The Blue Light Night event will be held on August 4th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at State Street Park.
