Community members come together to support Carey’s Camp
MILLSBORO, Delaware.- A campground in Delaware is coming together after an important part of it caught on fire.
On Sunday, the Carey’s Camp confectionary caught on fire due to an electrical malfunction. By the time he got to the scene, confectionary employee Curtis Jones knew the building was unsalvageable.
“When we first got the call of the fire, I was at home,” Jones said. “We came over to see how bad it was and when we arrived, we could see flames shooting out of the building, then you look at it and realize it’s going to be a total loss.”
Just two days after the fire occurred, the community came together to collect donations of essentials for the Confectionary. VBS director Keri Justice said members donated various goods, from utensils to appliances.
“We reached out on Facebook and our post had over 500 shares,” Justice said. “We had people in the community coming out in full force to give us everything we needed.”
With the Carey’s Camp kick off on Wednesday, locals are hopeful this tragedy will open doors to positive growth.
“What we can’t wait to see is all of the people that just found out about us to come out and check it out,” Justice said.
If you’re interested in donating to the confectionary, you can contact the organization on Facebook or bring your items to Carey’s Camp at 22503 Careys Camp Rd, Millsboro DE.
