City of Salisbury names Acting Police Chief

SALISBURY, Md. – The City of Salisbury has announced that Assistant Chief David Meienschein has been named the city’s Acting Police Chief.

Acting Chief Meienschein is stepping in after the recent retirement of Barbara Duncan and will remain in the position while the process of hiring a new police chief is conducted.

Acting Chief Meienschein is a Salisbury native who joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Parkside High School in 1982. He served on active duty for four years before joining the Air Force Reserves in 1987, the same year his career in law enforcement began. He started as a seasonal police officer in Ocean City before becoming a police recruit for the Salisbury Police Department. He retired from the reserves in 2003.

He has served 35 years in the SPD, having been assigned as an officer, supervisor, and commander. He served these roles in various departments, including Operations, Special Operations, K-9, Crisis Negotiations Unit, and Community Police Programs.
