Caroline Co. man arrested in connection to early morning stabbing

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – A Caroline County man has been arrested following an early morning stabbing.

According to police, the incident happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. Troopers were en route to Liberty Road in Federalsburg for a report of trespassing when they learned it was a reported stabbing. Police located the victim, later identified as 36-year-old Eric Steele, inside the residence suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Steele was taken by MSP Aviation to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Steele and the suspect, 26-year-old Leo Cook III, were living in the same residence at the time the incident took place. Police determined that Cook was involved in the stabbing and took him into custody in the backyard.

Cook is charged with second degree attempted murder, two counts of first degree assault, second degree assault, and reckless endangerment.

The incident remains under investigation.
