Beebe Ranch now saved; new owner says future looks bright for property
CHINCOTEAGUE, Va.- The historic Beebe Ranch has officially been saved! The Museum of Chincoteague Island is now the new owner of the property.
Earlier this year, a fundraiser was started with a goal of raising $625,000 to help the museum buy the ranch. It was reached with 100% donations.
Director Cindy Faith says it was an all-hands on deck effort from more than 5,000 people across the country. Faith also tells 47 ABC the purchase was just the first step. “There’s some cleanup that needs to be done. There’s also the hope and dream to rebuild the barn so that we can have a nice place for the ponies to live and have space for classroom activities,” Faith said.
“We want to make this a place that people can really be proud of and be excited to keep coming back. That’s where the work comes in.”
Faith tells us that they’ll now be eligible for more grant opportunities with owning the property.
Funding is still needed for other maintenance and day-to-day operational costs.
For those looking for more ways to get involved, we’re told a Beebe Ranch Committee is in the works. To find out more, click here
