Bayhealth gets a half million grant to help the physician shortage
Bayhealth receiving a half million dollar American rescue plan act grant to address the physician shortage. Both Kent and Sussex Counties are being affected, meaning there is one physician for every 2,000 patients in the area. Family residency programs, like the one at Bayhealth, have helped draw more medical professionals to the area.
Program Director Brintha Vasagar says we need more physicians sooner than later.
“They know that they should, that they should get their prevention care,” Vasagar said. “They know that’s how we catch bad diseases before they reach that critical point, but finding a doctor is just so difficult in Delaware, it really is a struggle for so many people.”
Bay Health built the Family Medicine Outpatient Practice in 2021. Since then, it has been to see over 20 thousand patients since opening its doors.
