‘Arts Day in the Pines’ celebrates local creatives, supports programming for Art League of Ocean City

OCEAN PINES, Md.- Whether you’re an artist or an aspiring one looking for a little inspiration, Arts Day in the Pines had a little of everything for everyone.

“The art league here caters to all different types of artists,” Guerriero said.

Lisa Guerriero was looking for a sense of belonging when she got connected with the Art League of Ocean City. She started as a volunteer with the nonprofit but that changed Sunday. For the first time, she was an art vendor showcasing her own work. “I enjoy doing photography because it gets me out into nature. I enjoy doing jewelry. I do decorated shells and even edged glass. You name it, I do it. I just have fun with it,” Guerriero said.

Guerriero was just one of more than 40 artists apart of the Art League of Ocean City’s annual Arts Day celebration. The day also included live music, food from local vendors, and a kids activity station.

Hundreds made their way to Veterans Memorial Park in Ocean Pines to roam through a variety of hand-crafted items you wouldn’t find anywhere else. “These guys are professionals in their craft. You can find everything from pottery, blown glass, printing making, and even photography,” OC Art League’s Gallery Assistant and Camp Director Kacie Neeb said.

The event also stands as one of the art league’s biggest fundraising efforts of the year. “The Art League of Ocean City has been an organization for 60 years and we’ve been in our building for the past 10 years. We need some renovations, upgrades, and a little facelift,” OC Art League’s Volunteer & Events Coordinator Aubrey Sizemore said.

Guerriero says she initially started jewelry making when her mother got ill as a way to relax. Along the way, she tells us she found a piece of herself. “Alot of this is for myself and my own enjoyment. If someone else can come along and share that enjoyment then all the better,” Guerriero said.

Funds raised will also go to support a variety of free classes the art league puts on for creatives of all ages. The nonprofit is also celebrating its 60-year anniversary of serving the local community through art.
