Advocates aim to hold DE lawmakers accountable with upcoming rally

DELAWARE – The Delaware General Assembly’s recent legislative session may have wrapped up last month, but advocates say their work isn’t done yet.

Several organizations, including the ACLU of Delaware, are hosting an upcoming rally this weekend. The ACLU of Delaware says their big goal is to give every Delawarean a chance to let their voice be heard.

The We Demand: The People’s Rally will be focused on strengthen veteran’s rights, education reform, probation reform, and more.

The ACLU says they did see some success with police reform this previous session with the passing on House Bills 205 and 206. They also tell 47ABC they’re looking for true accountability in policing and much more. “You’re going to see more town halls, more of the more of these rallies up and down Delaware educating our Delawareans, and growing our network,” DE ACLU Lead Smart Justice Ambassador Vonda Smack said.

“We’re hoping that our legislators will listen to us and let us sit down at the table to  show them how we can get to the things that us Delawareans want.”

The ACLU says another big-ticket item on their agenda is calling for equitable and safe homes for all Delawareans.
