16-year-old charged following stolen vehicle, shooting investigation in Dover
DOVER, Del. – A 16-year-old is behind bars following a stolen vehicle and shooting investigation that began early Saturday morning.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., an officer stopped a stolen Kia Forte, at which time one of the occupants ran. The driver, a 16-year-old male, was taken into custody, and officers found shell casings inside the vehicle.
A short time later, officers received a call for shots fired in the unit block of Rockford Crossing. At the scene, officers found a residence occupied by five individuals that had been hit by gunfire and damaged. No injuries were reported.
The 16-year-old was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $1500 and two traffic charges. He was released on Saturday.
The investigation into the shooting continued, with detectives determining that there was a delay in the 911 call for the shots fired, and that the shooting happened before the teen was stopped in the stolen vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the teen was involved in the shooting, and warrants were obtained for his arrest.
On Monday, the 16-year-old turned himself in to Dover Police, where he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, five counts of reckless endangering, criminal mischief, and hindering prosecution. He was held at Stevenson House on a $29,000 secured bail.
