Voting rights violation lawsuit filed against Town of Federalsburg
FEDERALSBURG, Md. – The Town of Federalsburg is being sued for allegedly violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Now, Federalsburg residents, along with the ACLU, have filed a motion for “summary judgment”, in which they ask the court to explicitly enter judgment for only the Plaintiffs in this case. They argue that the Town’s past election practices have subjected residents seeking office to racial vote dilution, which is in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act,
They are also declaring the Federalsburg Town Charter, which helped keep these election practices in place, as invalid.
A response from the Town is due by next Friday, June 30th.
