Teens arrested for attempted vehicle theft in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Two teens have been arrested after an attempted vehicle theft early Wednesday morning.

At around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle alarm going off with apparent damage to the vehicle. Officers began searching the area for suspects when they saw two juvenile males, ages 17 and 15, leaving the back yard of a residence wearing dark clothing. The teens allegedly got into an Uber, which officers stopped in an attempt to make contact with the juveniles. The pair got out of the Uber and fled on foot but were taken into custody a short time later.

Officers checked the area where the suspects ran, finding two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen. The suspects were also reportedly found in possession of tools commonly used to facilitate the theft of vehicles.

The 15-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, possession of burglar’s tools, and third degree conspiracy.

The 17-year-old was charged with the above charges, as well as receiving a stolen firearm.
