Smyrna man arrested on 4th DUI after crashing car into ditch

1280 Glenn Wilson

SMYRNA, Del. – A Smyrna man is behind bars on DUI charges after crashing his vehicle Wednesday night.

Just before 9 p.m., troopers were called to the intersection of Wheatleys Pond Road and Mt Friendship Road for a report of a vehicle in a ditch. Contact was made with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 61-year-old Glenn Wilson, and the trooper immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Wilson’s breath and observed other signs of impairment.

Further investigation revealed that Wilson was traveling northbound on Mt Friendship Road when he reportedly disregarded the stop sign at the intersection, causing his front bumper to hit a ditch on Wheatleys Pond Road. A computer check showed that Wilson had three previous DUI convictions.

Wilson was charged with 4th offense DUI and failure to stop at a stop sign. He was held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $6,001 secured bond.
