SEAFORD, Del. – A Seaford man was arrested following a police chase early Thursday morning.

At around 12:40 a.m., a trooper on patrol saw a gray Ford Crown Victoria turn right onto Old Furnace Road from eastbound Middleford Road without stopping at the posted stop sign. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle skidded into a traffic sign and came to a stop on Old Furnace Road at Cokesbury Road, and the driver, identified as 19-year-old Cedric Smith, was taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded handgun that was reported stolen in February 2023.

Smith was charged with multiple firearm and traffic related charges and held at SCI on a $16,605 cash bond.
