Opioid crisis listening session coming to Sussex County
GEORGETOWN, Del. – A series of statewide community listening sessions on Delaware’s opioid crisis will make their way to Sussex County Thursday evening.
Earlier this month, Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long and Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced a series of statewide community listening sessions led by the Delaware Prescription Opioid Settlement Distribution Commission aimed at gathering feedback on the opioid epidemic.
The meetings will be held in all three counties with the next one set to take place in Sussex this Thursday from 6 to 7 pm at Delaware Technical Community College (Carter Partnership Center, Room 555) in Georgetown.
47 ABC spoke to Lt. Governor Hall-Long who called on everyone to attend and share their thoughts on how to combat the opioid crisis and save lives in the First State.
“I would encourage anyone to come out, those who are individually suffering, perhaps those who provide services for loved ones, who have need of harm reduction, or educators who are working in our community, not only in our schools,” Lt. Governor Hall-Long said. “Our faith-based leaders, business owners, stakeholders in our community.”
The listening sessions will seek public feedback, personal experiences, and share information on the commission’s initiatives.
The first meeting in the series was held Tuesday in New Castle County. The third and final session will take place Monday, June 26 in Kent County from 6 to 7 pm at the Delaware Technical Community College-Terry Campus (Del One Conference Center ETB 727) in Dover.
For those who still want to share their thoughts but can’t attend a meeting, a survey is available to submit feedback at Google Docs survey.
