One dead in early morning crash in Dover

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a man in Dover early Monday morning.

Just before 4 a.m., police say a 2015 GMC Acadia was traveling northbound on Bayside Drive, approaching a slight right curve, south of Leipsic Road, at an apparent high rate of speed. The driver reportedly failed to maintain control of the vehicle, allowing it to cross over the solid double yellow centerlines and leave the west edge of the roadway, traveling approximately 150 feet in an embankment before hitting a tree. The vehicle then flipped and caught fired.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car, and no other vehicles were involved.
